I love chocolate cake however, it is always so messy and it is not convenient to eat if you are in a hurry. Thank goodness for cake balls! These are basically little bites of cake and frosting combined and then dipped in chocolate. What more could you want? They are also great for sharing with friends and bringing with you to school or an event.
I prefer to make these with chocolate cake and frosting, but if you prefer vanilla that works too. You can really use any flavor that you would like!
Ingredients:
Directions:
1. Bake the cake according to the instructions on the box.
2. Once the cake is out of the oven, let it cool for at least 20 minutes.
3. Crumble the cake into a large bowl. I usually put the full cake into the bowl and then use my hands to crumble all the pieces until there are no large chunks of cake.
4. Add 1/2 to 3/4 of the can of frosting to the cake crumbs. Continue to use your hands to mix until a dough is formed. (It is best to use your hands for this step because when using a spoon the dough tends to get too sticky. You need to be able to feel the consistency.)
5. Take rounded tablespoons of the cake "dough" and and roll them to form a smooth ball. Place on a pan with a sheet of wax paper. Freeze for 30-60 minutes.
6. Melt the candy coating in a microwave safe bowl or on the stove.
7. Remove the cake balls from the freezer and dip in the candy coating. Make sure all sides are covered.
8. Place the dipped cake balls into the freezer for 10 minutes.
9. Enjoy!
