Last week, I picked up a cookbook at the library called "One Dirty Bowl". It has so many yummy recipes and I recommend you go check it out because there are a lot of super easy ideas in there for delicious treats. Plus, they all only require one bowl so cleanup is even easier! Anyways, I saw this recipe and since it had the words "peanut butter" in the title, I knew that my mom would love it! She loves peanut butter and we actually made some 3 ingredient peanut butter cookies last weekend (recipe to come). The author of the cookbook said that they are called "love bars" since a lot of people say "I love you" when they bite into them. So, I decided that they would be a great treat to bring for my friends on the first day of school. I pulled them out at lunch that day and later that night for my family, hoping that they were a success, and they were! I believe the first words from everyone were, "OMG, HANNAH!" They were instantly a hit. I sent my friends home with some extras that day since they loved them so much! The best part about this recipe is how easy it is, they took no time to make. The only issue is that these are crumbly because of the crust on the top and bottom. These are a layered cookie bar, so you have to make sure that you spread all of the layers evenly throughout the pan. Overall, I would say these are going to be making a reappearance in our kitchen for sure. I hope you all enjoy!
Ingredients
Directions
- 1 cup peanut butter (creamy)
- 1 box vanilla cake mix
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup butter (melted)
- 1- 14oz can of sweetened condensed milk
- Chocolate chips (I used milk chocolate)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 by 13" pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the peanut butter, egg and cake mix. Beat well, the mixture will be crumbly. Set aside 1 cup of the mixture and pour the rest into the pan. Press down the mixture to make sure it is pack in tightly. This is going to be the bottom crust.
- Bake the crust for 10 minutes.
- Since the original bowl is not empty, combine the sweetened condensed milk and butter. Pour on top of the baked crust, then sprinkle chocolate chips on top. I used a lot of chocolate chips since I like a more prominent chocolate flavor.
- Sprinkle the remaining crust mixture on top of the chocolate chips. Make sure everything is covered or else the sweetened condensed milk will bubble up over the crumble. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
